A week in the paradise of Lefkada
Lefkada’s name origin
Lefkada is an island in the Ionian Sea. It took its name from the “cape Lefkata”, where the ancient temple of Apollo is located, the place where, according to a legend, the poetess Sappho jumped from the rocks to get rid of her love for Faon.

This island has the unique advantage of being accessible by road, due to its geographical location, as it is connected to Αitoloakarnania by a 50-meter floating bridge.
It is an ideal destination for families as well as for groups. It has important attractions, combining the green of the mountains, the dense vegetation, and the endless blue of the enchanting beaches that will shock you. You have surely seen pictures of its famous beaches, but when you visit them you will find that the truth surpasses any rumor. It has both organized and deserted beaches. Traditional picturesque villages, beautiful alleys, churches, museums, but also beach bars, nightclubs, thus combining the tastes of every visitor.
Here we will give you some ideas and suggestions for what you can do for a few days in Lefkada:
Day 1
Agios Nikitas It is a traditional seaside village, located on the northwest side of the island, just 15 minutes from the city. You will get to know this picturesque village by walking, as cars are not allowed in the pedestrian street of the village. Going down the alley to reach the enchanting beach you will find taverns, cafes and bars on the beach. We highly recommend Taverna Maistros to enjoy your food, where you will find fresh fish and seafood as well as meat. And then you can drink your cocktail at the well-known Captains Corner gazing at the sea and the tranquility it inspires. You can also take the “Express Milos” boat to the neighboring beach of Mylos, the deep blue waters will amaze you.
Day 2
Another option is to visit the famous Kathisma beach, located just 2 km from the village of Agios Nikitas. It is worth enjoying its amazing waters. It is a fully organized beach, with many beach bars and restaurants, and it has parking. You can also try a unique experience, paragliding above the Seat, paragliding, from its international name Parapente, is the newest and simplest form of individual gliding.
It is the flight using a special parachute and taking off from a slope at a height, exploiting the updrafts of the wind in front of the slope. After the Seat, You must definitely visit “Rachi”, it is a restaurant that also has a cocktail bar “Fly me” where you must see the “sunset hour” and live the unique experience of enjoying your food or drink your cocktail above the clouds.
Day 3
Sivota is worth visiting. It is one of the most beautiful bays of Lefkada, it is located 32 km south of the capital of Lefkada. The settlement is located around a crystal blue bay in green hills overlooking the Ionian Sea. It is yet another preferred destination for boat owners. Along the small harbor you can find many taverns and cafes to enjoy the tranquility and the view.
From there you can easily visit Vassiliki, a village a few kilometers away. The busiest spot, both during the day and at night, is the picturesque port of Vasiliki, where you will find taverns, several tourist souvenir shops, but also cafes with ice cream and sweets. During the day there are boat routes from the port to the nearby Agiofyli beach, which is also accessible via a dirt road that starts at the edge of the village.
Day 4
Another great option is Kalamitsi. It is located on the western side of the island of Lefkada, at a distance of 7 km from the village of Agios Nikitas and 18 km from the city of Lefkada. Although the village is mountainous, “downhill” towards the sea there are some of the most beautiful beaches of the island. The white sand, turquoise waters and rocks in the sea make them look like beaches on tropical islands. One of them is Avali, where it has a canteen that is truly Instagrammable. Kavalikeuta and Megali Petra are also fantastic beaches. You will be enchanted by the endless blue.
Day 5 .
A day could be spent on the southwest side of Lefkada, you could go for a swim at Gyalos beach, enjoy the endless blue, where you will also find a canteen. After your bath you could visit Akrotiri Lefkada, which is located at the southernmost point of Lefkada, at the place where the sacred Temple of Apollo was in ancient times. You will really be blown away by both the view and the drive to get there. Once you are done from there you can try to eat in the beautiful village of Athani, in the tavern Ionio, or in Lefkatas, where you will taste good food and be enchanted by the view as the sun sets.
Day 6
Α very good choice to spend your day is a visit to beautiful Meganisi island . You can go there from taking taking a boat from Nidri. Meganisi is an island between Lefkada and Etoloakarnania, near the famous Scorpio, just 25 minutes from Lefkada. It is a verdant paradise with impressive fjords, enchanting sea caves and captivating beaches. The 3 picturesque villages on the island are Vathi, Spartochori and Katomeri. The most popular beaches of the island are Fanari (one of the most well-known and organized beaches), Limonari, Agios Ioannis (where the church of the same name is also worth seeing), and Spilia. If you need peace and rest, Meganisi is definitely the ideal choice.
