3. Kathisma beach
Kathisma beach is a huge sandy beach in western Lefkada at a distance of 15 km from the town. Your eyes will be delighted by the wonderful route before you even arrive and face the Ionian Sea. The road leading to the beach is winding and at the end of it there is a fairly large parking lot. During the summer months and especially during the lunch hours you will probably face a problem due to crowding. Alternatively, you can reach Kathisma by motorbike or even by KTEL bus.
Kathisma beach is a fully organized beach and its beach bars have made it a pole of attraction for young people who spend their holidays on the island and in general for those who like loud music and crowds. Nevertheless, its size gives the opportunity to those who prefer quiet or a little more private moments to have their space at the edges.
The surprise at Kathisma lies in the fact that paragliding enthusiasts can enjoy incredible views flying over the beach and turquoise waters. The beach is surrounded by impressive cliffs. The fine white sand and emerald waters give the visitor the feeling of being in a heavenly place.
4. Agios Nikitas
Taking the road to the west coast of Lefkada, you pass between beautiful villages and green landscapes. When you arrive at the village of Agios Nikitas, park in the parking lot or along the road, before the entrance, because cars are not allowed inside the picturesque village. The settlement is built on the bay and will charm you not only because of its exquisite location and its traditional character, but also with its cosmopolitan aura.
Walk down the paved road and let your senses be free to enjoy the sound of cicadas and the smells of summer. As soon as the turquoise waters appear before your eyes, you will be charmed by the tranquility of this small place. The small cove, surrounded by rocks, offers a magnificent view of the Ionian Sea and you can stay several hours here because there are plenty of restaurants and cafes that offer shade in the hot midday. Also, Agios Nikitas is a perfect choice for a quiet evening drink listening to the splash of the sea.
From here you can go to the nearby beach of Mylos, in case you prefer more private moments and a wider stretch of beach. There are boats available at regular intervals as well as the choice of the path.
5. Mylos Beach
The beach of Mylos is unique, it seems to be fake if you look at it from afar. Its biggest advantage is that it is isolated and not overwhelmed by the existence of cars.
Mylos beach can be accessed by boat from Agios Nikitas, but for the more adventurous types there is also a narrow path that starts through the village and leads there. The route takes about 15-20 minutes, but it is very interesting as you walk for a very short time on the rock that stands next to the sea, among the bushy landscape. It might be a little tiring in the hot summer months, so prefer the early morning hours for your excursion. Once you reach the end of the trail, you see a fantastic landscape in front of you. White sand and deep turquoise waters await you to enjoy them for many hours.
6. Kavalikefta Beach
Near Kalamitsi is the Kavalikeuta beach with turquoise waters, white pebbles, sand and rocks. A secret little beach that will pleasantly surprise you! The road to get there is slightly difficult, but it goes through olive groves and leaves you spellbound. When you arrive, leave the car on the road and in a few minutes you will be at the small sea opening. As you can see from the photos there is paid parking, sunbeds and a small refreshment bar.
7. Megali Petra
Near the village of Kalamitsi, there are 3 beautiful small beaches, not so well known to most. Usually, the most preferable is Megali Petra beach, but the whole stretch of coast in Kalamitsi is spectacular. White sand and turquoise waters dominate the landscape everywhere and at the same time you are given the feeling of privacy. Access to the beach is slightly difficult, due to the bends and narrows, but quite pleasant because it passes through the olive groves and offers the feeling of being out on the open sea when you reach the end. Parking options are limited, but the beach is not crowded.
8. Avali beach
Almost halfway between Lefkada town and the famous Porto Katsiki beach, lies another jewel, Avali beach. Its name in the Lekkadian language reveals its nature: a small bay protected from the big waves. It will take you about 15 minutes to reach the beach from Kalamitsi village. After leaving the main road, you will follow a beautiful road that will lead you to the beach. You will see the sign for Avali beach and turn right. You can reach the beach through the stairs that start from the cafe at the beginning of the street.
Here the visitor can discover a quiet place to enjoy the view and spend some quality time without many tourists. At the same time, he can enjoy the comfort of the shade in the small cafe that has been built in recent years. It is recommended to bring water and an umbrella to protect yourself from the heat and sun during the warmer months.
9. Gialos Beach
Gialos Beach is one of the longest beaches of Lefkada located 35 km southwest next to the famous Egremni and Porto Katsiki. It doesn’t get that crowded like most of the beaches of the island but it is equally beautiful with unique features. Part of it is well-organized with sunbeds and umbrellas, but in places it can be totally private. It is accessed through a narrow road from Athani village.
There is a parking area and a nice cafeteria with view to the Ionian Sea. The sand on the beach is a bit rougher compared to other beaches in the area. You can also visit it with a private yacht on your exploration of the west coast.
10. Agiofylli beach
Agiofyli beach is one of the most beautiful pebbly beaches of the island. It is located in a very picturesque cove to the west of Vasiliki. The waters are blue-green and crystal clear. Access is easier by sea (by boat from Vasiliki) especially in the summer months when they are quite hot. But there is also a trail you can take if you want to add a touch of adventure to your day. Stock up on water and light food, as there is no canteen. In the summer months of July-August, Agiofylli is very busy and you might prefer the early morning hours if you want to avoid the big crowds.
11. Pefkoulia Beach
Pefkoulia beach is located in the northwestern part of the island of Lefkada, between the town of Lefkada (distance about 10 km) and Agios Nikitas. It is a long sandy beach with crystal clear waters and a pine forest that reaches down to the sand. After the landslides caused by the earthquakes there are scattered rocks that make the landscape more uncontrollable. The beach has a nice coffee-food bar with pool (deck side cafe it’s name) and is organized only in one part of it. After the big rock, the area is particularly popular with nudists. Also, sometimes you will see free campers, since they love the peace and carefreeness that this place offers.
12. Afteli Beach
The beach of Evgirou Afteli or Skydi is known mainly to foreigners and is crowded in the summer months. It is a small cove to the south of Evgiros, shortly after Choirospilia, where, according to Dairpfeld, were the stables of Eumaios. Your beach slowly unfolds its beauty. The first element that impresses is the rich green and bushy vegetation that embraces the creek and reaches to the sea. The granite formations create wonderful lines and unique curves for many kilometers, but suddenly stop at Afteli.
The beach is paved with white pebbles and the sea water has an enchanting turquoise color. The well-hidden beauty of Afteli forms an idyllic landscape that you should not neglect to visit. After enjoying your bath, it’s worth exploring the well-known “Pig Cave” and letting your imagination run wild in the lyrics of Homer’s Odyssey.
13. Ammousa Beach
The beautiful beach of Ammousso or Ammousa is located in the southern part of the island near Agiophylli beach, at a distance of about 4 kilometers from the coastal road after Marantochori. At the bottom of a bay, surrounded by rocks, secluded with pebbles and quiet crystal clear waters. It is quite organized with umbrellas, sunbeds and a tavern. In August it is crowded.
If you happen to be somewhere on the fifteenth of August in the area, you will have the opportunity to participate in a local custom that takes place on the beach. Lefkada soup, traditional, “spaetto” with goat in the local dialect, prepared in large cauldrons on the beach from lunchtime. And of course, in addition to the traditional feast and abundant wine, there is also dancing and singing, which turn this beautiful custom into a fantastic celebration for locals and visitors.
14. Desimi beach
Desimi beach is located in a cove, on the outer side of the Vlychos peninsula. It is small, shady and ideal for canoeing, with which you can explore the small sandbars and caves along the coast. It is a pebbly beach and there are two organized campsites in the bay.
15. Vasiliki Beach
A fishing village that turned out to be a cosmopolitan resort for international lovers of water sports like windsurfing, sailing, kayaking and paddling. Vasiliki is considered to be one of the best Mediterranean spots for windsurfing.

16. Mikros Gialos
In the serenity of a natural bay, below the village of Poros (in the south of the island), the exquisite beach of Mikros Gialos has been formed. Almost isolated, it emerges from the green mountains that surround it, in its white pebbly costume. Next to it lie the crystal turquoise waters of the Ionian. The mountain masses around are a natural protection from the winds, as a result of which the sea is calm most of the day. It used to be the port of Poros.

17. Nikiana Beach
On the east coast of Lefkada and along the seaside settlement of Nikiana there are a number of small and even larger beaches. Clean and well-kept, they attract tourists and make the wider area of Nikiana one of the most important tourist destinations on the island of Lefkada. The area is popular with families with children and the elderly because the access is very easy and the waters are shallower compared to the western beaches. The proximity to the coasts of Etoloakarnania offer a very beautiful view. Often the landscape is beautified by passing boats and sailboats.
Among the beaches of the village, Limni beach stands out, at the entrance of Nikiana, a little from the center of the village, next to the provincial road, with fine sand and shallow waters. Still high in the visitors’ preferences is the small Kontria beach with its white pebbles, next to the village’s port, which takes its name from the large rocks or “kontria”, as the inhabitants of the village usually call them.
Finally, the beach that starts from “Kontria” to the area that the locals call “Varka” is the largest beach in Nikiana with several tourist accommodations, shops, restaurants and beach bars. In the small port of Nikiana, fishing and excursion boats are moored that carry out various sea excursions to the beaches of the island and to the nearby islets of the area.
18. Ligia Beach
Karyotes and Lygia are the first coastal settlements that one meets when leaving Lefkada, so they are also the first beaches that are found in the description of the east coast of Lefkada. The settlement faces the sea and the whole is full of small beaches, all of which face the green islands opposite (Prigiponisia). The view from higher up is beautiful and enchanting. Its name is due to the fact that it circles the lagoon, which is in front of the city, and one has to make the “round” to reach the city again.

“Kastro” beach is the first beach that one can visit upon entering the island of Lefkada. It is part of the “Gyra” beach and is very easily accessible from a pedestrian path. 25. Tsoukalades Beach
